Goodbye.

Overall, I had a great journey from the first prelim to the title sequence. Despite issues and events, I was still able to pull through and create my final product. I have developed skills which will help me in the future e.g planning, filming, editing, and organisation. Also, I understand how the media industry works through this process.

3. Choice of Titles, font , colour, position etc

My shots titles were one a black screen. This was to create suspense in the sequence.

I used a typewriter font to give a feel that a statement was being written on a typewriter. This gives the viewer a feeling that something is going to happen and helps to add to the suspense.


The colour tone that I used was a green/red tint which is often used for most horror movies.

2. Sounds for 'Behind You'

The suspenseful background music for my title sequence was found searching for royalty free music. This is music that doesn't have copyright protection.

I google searched 'horror music royalty free'



I am going to use foley sounds in shots as this will help suspend disbelief.

1. Stages of editing for 'Behind You'

1. The first stage in my editing was the composition of my shots. I had to find the shots that I was using and order them the timeline of premiere.

2. Secondly, I inserted the titles between the shots. I used titles on a black screen as it helped to create suspense and unknowing of the next shot.

3. Thirdly, I went onto youtube and did a google search for 'royalty free horror suspense music'. After some time searching through copyright free music I found a suitable track to use in my title sequence. 

4. After, I started to edit the colours of my shots through the process of colour grading. I found that I was able to create a film look by making the shots slightly dark and giving them a green/red filter.

Leaving my group

I left the group that I was working with, and took on independent work by myself. The title sequence came out differently from my old group, and different shots were used. The order of the shots were different to the story board.

I used the shots we had from filming. I also had a different colour scheme to my film as I decided to colour grade my title sequence.

Controlled Assessment Week - Evaluation of Rough Cut

1) The success of the title sequence as a whole. 

 A) Does the order of shots make sense? 
the orders of the shots make sense up until the end of the rough cut. The shots at the end of the film were in a different location.


B) Is the order the same as how you planned it?
No, the storyboard was created by another member of the group and it wasn't taken to the filming of the title sequence so a lot of the shots are improvised. Here is the updated storyboard.

  2) The quality of the camera work.

A lot of the shots taken were jittery and from bad angles. We had to go back and film the shots again using a tripod. I made sure that we used unique and interesting angles for the title sequence.


3) The variety of shot types used 

There were many abstract shots in the title sequence. For example we used a low angle to film the footsteps of the killer. This didn't reveal too much of his identity so that the suspense was built up.







4) The use of lighting

The recording took place in the forest so the shots created a dark, grim atmosphere. The colour was also edited in adobe premiere to reduce the contrast and tint the shots in a greenish tone. This helped to make the sequence fit the theme of a thriller/horror hybrid.


5) The performance of the characters 

The female protagonist was played by a member of group 23. She moved here eyes left to right showing her fear of the killer as the fact is unable to locate him. The male killer (myself) walked slowly and calmly. We see very little of his face so we don't know his intentions, but we can tell that they are bad because he is stalking the female protagonist in the woods.

6) The use of mise-en-scene with locations, settings, props and costumes

The location the recording took place was in Highgate Woods. The atmosphere was dark and grim, developing the setting of the thriller/hybrid 'Behind You'. There weren't props in the title sequence because they were left out in during recording. The killer wore a hoody and a mask to conceal his identity. The female actor wears a pair of jeans and a black jacket.

5. Audience detail - Karen

A. The target audience is mainly aimed for people aged 16 and above, I would say 16 because i believe that is the right age for teenagers to watch a thriller movie and not feel affected. The reason for this is because we think that people aged 16 and above find thrillers interesting and fun to watch and they like knowing that there a cliff hanger and whats going to happen next.

The type of person to watch this is someone with dark hair blue eyes and someone dressed in dark colours for example black hoodie, jeans, and a dark top. People are like this are the types that would enjoy a thriller.
